Gypsy Reports - Informing Healthcare Travelers

Halifax Health - Daytona Beach, Florida

Today, a member shared this information:

"Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach canc all travelers effective June 10 d/t low census. Funny, there were I believe 35 nurses between the main hospital and the other smaller newly opened in Port Orange. The ED lost 27 shifts a week and had not seen any decrease in census.
I was there only 2 weeks when they put this out and lost 7 weeks. Thank god for Atlas that found me an amazing replacement contract just a short distance down the road. Sad that Halifax is a level 2 trauma center and fully into the summer tourist season with not enough nurses to have the ER fully staffed."

As of this post, Halifax Medical only had one cancellation report in the cancellation database and that isn't including any of the cancellations from this incident.

Franciscan Healthcare in Indiana

I was told the following today:

"Franciscan Hospitals in Indiana will give medication and EKG tests without prior notice at orientation which are pass or no contract! I questioned that they had not made this information available to my recruiter because I make it a policy to avoid such facilities. The response was that they didn't want to give nurses test anxiety!"

"One nurse did not pass but was given a retest fortunately. I told my recruiter and she was very mad because she had asked about pass/cancel testing and was told there was NONE!"

Personally, I will not work at a facility that practices this kind of deceit. If they can't truthfully answer simple questions about testing, what other simple and/or serious things are they willing to lie about?

Alta Bates Summit Medical Center - Berkeley

Today I was told that Alta Bates in Berkeley, California has canceled all their L&D travelers who hadn't started their contracts and the L&D travelers that are currently on contract were given a 30 day notice, but they are concerned the notice will not be honored and they will be released earlier. Some L&D travelers signed an extension, but were told by Alta Bates they had to take a 2 week break between contracts. Those that signed an extension were given less than 48 hours notice that their contract had been canceled.

The amount of canceled travelers is unknown.

As of this report, Alta Bates Berkeley had three cancellations in the cancellation database for this year and one for Alta Bates Oakland. For me, they have exceeded the amount of cancellations I'm willing to overlook. I will not work for them anymore.
